This colossus of a book (weighing some 10kg) is dedicated to Cartier’s private company collection of timepieces. Page after page of beautifully illustrated watches and clocks reveal the history of Cartier’s Timepieces from 1853-1997. Cartier began actively purchasing pieces for their historical collection of timepieces in 1973. The firm has now amassed an extraordinary array of beautiful watches, clocks and other timepieces. This book was the work of historians, archivists, horological specialists and master clock and watchmakers. The texts were written by François Chaille and Franco Cologni.

The book is divided into historical periods and timepieces are illustrated and arranged according to their style, form and materials. The 424 timepieces (124 clocks and 300 watches) are illustrated life size. To fit the larger clocks into the book, there are several fold out pages. At the back of the book you’ll find an excellent chronological summary of all timepieces in date order with, where relevant, their model names. As Franco Cologni says in his introduction “this publication now makes it possible to peruse the complete Cartier Collection – at home!”

With maroon cloth covered board covers, the book is presented within an outer hardboard, cloth covered folder, this is itself contained within a card carrying case.
